A health and fitness equipment manufacturer engaged Alpha Coatings custom coating services to apply a coating to a rubber overmold used on treadmills. The abrasion resistance coating improved the wear resistance of the molded EPDM rubber. First, we cleaned the rubber overmold, then using an automated reciprocating spray applicator, we sprayed primer as an adhesion promoter, then applied the coating to a thickness of between .7 and 1.2 mils. We maintained coating tolerances of 0.25 mils. With a length of 17" to 27.6" and width of 2.4", the part was packaged as per customer supplied specifications. Prior to shipping the product to the customer in Waukesha, Wisconsin, our quality assurance team conducted dry film thickness (DFT) and coating cure checks.
